At a packed meeting of Christchurch Citizens’ Association on 5 September those attending were given a short presentation of the Options for Christchurch in the proposed reorganisation of Dorset Councils. Those attending were very concerned that the consultation document Reshaping Your Councils was seriously flawed and was biased in favour of Christchurch joining with Bournemouth and Poole, in a Greater Bournemouth.
It was unanimously resolved that letters asking for the withdrawal of this document be sent to the Leader of Christchurch Council Cllr Nottage, the Chief Executive David McIntosh, Christopher Chope MP, the Leader of Dorset County Council Cllr Gould and the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government.
Those attending were also concerned that Option 1 for Christchurch to remain independent was not shown on the questionnaire alongside the other options. Residents were urged if they wanted to choose Option 1 to write it clearly in the box DO YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER COMMENTS? Giving their reasons and to Strongly oppose Options 2a, 2b, and 2c.
It was also resolved that the CCA should organise a public meeting which will be held on SATURDAY 17 SEPTEMBER at Twynham School at 2.30 pm. Everyone in Christchurch is invited to attend and we hope as many people as possible to come along and ask questions of the panel consisting of the Leader of the Council Cllr Nottage, Christopher Chope MP and the Leader of the Opposition on Christchurch Council Cllr Colin Bungey.
You can to access a Consultation Questionnaire online at www.reshapingyourcouncils.uk and also should be able to obtain a hard copy from the library or Civic Offices. We urge you to take a look at this.
A summary document showing the various options together with an initial summary of the CCA committee’s concerns is attached here.
